The Buffalo River has no shortage of great swimming holes that have plenty of water all year around. Most of the popular river access points have deep watering holes, even during the heat of summer.
There are hundreds of miles of great hiking trails in Upper Buffalo River area to challenge novice and serious hikers. The Upper District or western end of the river provides trails to waterfalls, loops and long distance trails, wilderness trails, and trails to historic structures.
The Upper Buffalo River region is a great choice as a place to fish for bass, perch and catfish. Smallmouth bass rule the upper Buffalo River, while catfish can be found anywhere on the Buffalo River. Fishing from a canoe is a popular method, and wade fishing can also be rewarding.
Elk & Wildlife
Elk have free range and can be seen at several different locations in and near the river. Usually the easiest place to view elk is along the six miles of Hwy 43 and Hwy 21 through Boxley Valley.
