If you're planning a trip to the Buffalo National River, one of the first questions you'll run into is where to stay. Two of the most popular choices are Jasper and Ponca, and while they're only about 15 miles apart, they offer two very different experiences.

Now, keep in mind that you're asking people from Jasper whether you should stay in Jasper or Ponca, so we might be just a little biased here 😉. But here's the thing - we enjoy Ponca, too! With fewer businesses and more open wilderness, Ponca feels quiet, calm, and wonderfully secluded. If you're looking to completely unplug for a few days, it's hard to beat. For us, though, Jasper offers the complete Ozarks experience.

From Jasper, you're still just a short drive from Ponca's world-famous hiking trails and elk viewing areas, but you also have easy access to countless other adventures throughout the Buffalo National River region. Spend the morning hiking to a breathtaking overlook, enjoy an afternoon floating the Buffalo River, then head back into town to stroll through Jasper's charming downtown.

Some of our favorite evenings are spent simply wandering around downtown. We'll grab a cup of coffee, browse a few locally owned shops, stop in for dinner, and finish the night with ice cream while watching the sunset. It's not a busy tourist town, and that's exactly what makes it special. Jasper has a relaxed pace that invites you to slow down and enjoy where you are.

While you're here, take some time to explore the historic courthouse square, chat with a few local business owners, and don't leave without trying one of the hometown restaurants. Some of our favorites include the famous Ozark Café, Low Gap Cafe, and Jasper Pizza Co. Every place has its own personality, and that's part of what makes downtown Jasper feel so welcoming.

Don't forget, at Buffalo River Vacations, we have six unique vacation rentals near Jasper, each designed for a different kind of getaway. Whether you're planning a romantic weekend, a family vacation, or a reunion with friends, there's a place that's just right for you.

  • Looking for a romantic escape? Canyon View Treehouse is hard to top. Perched above the Arkansas Grand Canyon, it offers breathtaking mountain views, an air tub for relaxing after a day on the trails, and the kind of peaceful setting that makes you want to stay just one more night.

  • Want to be able to park the car and walk into downtown Jasper? Sweet Jasper Suite puts you just steps from local restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping. After a day exploring the Buffalo, unwind in the private hot tub, gather around the backyard fire pit, or relax on the screened porch with your favorite drink.

  • Traveling with the whole crew? Ratterman Ranch has room for everyone to spread out. Sleeping up to 16 guests, it's perfect for family reunions, group float trips, church retreats, or weekends with friends. With wide-open spaces, beautiful Ozark views, and plenty of room to make memories together, it's one of our favorite places to host larger groups.

Of course, that's just the beginning. Every Buffalo River Vacations property is locally owned, thoughtfully prepared, and just a short drive from everything that makes Jasper one of Arkansas's favorite destinations. Explore all of our properties to find the perfect home base for your Buffalo National River adventure.
